At Get me to the Alps, as a dedicated ski travel agency – we are supposed to sit on the fence as to our preferred ski resorts. That is however, much easier said than done, it’s especially difficult in the case of Val Thorens, which has been awarded – and fully believed in by us to the be the best ski resort in the world.
Val Thorens is an incredibly popular resort not only with our customers, but also the staff here at Get me to the Alps. Below, we run through six of the main reasons (trust us, there’s more than six) as to why this ski season, you need to visit Val Thorens.
Excellent Value
Val Thorens is one of the most exclusive ski resorts in the world, but thanks to a fantastic range of self-catering ski apartments, one of the best value. These apartments offer the same levels of luxury as hotels and chalets, at a much lower price. Furthermore, many of these apartments have spa facilities, as well as ski in/ski out access.
It’s high
Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe, with the village sitting at 2,300 metres. The highest ski lift goes up to 3,230 metres, making Val Thorens one of the most snow sure areas to ski in the world. Skiing is available from early November to early May, so the ski season is well covered.
It has a massive ski area
Val Thorens is part of the Three Valleys Ski Area. This ski area is the largest linked ski area in the world, with over 335 ski runs at different altitudes, for different abilities. These runs contribute to almost 600kms of interconnected slopes, so you really don’t have to worry about running out of new areas to ski.
The Pistes Cater for all
The aforementioned 600kms of ski runs cater for everything from the expert, to the complete beginner. Val Thorens also has a wide and easy to navigate ski school area. For the powder junkies, there’s also plenty of off Piste to be enjoyed across the ski area.
The Resort Caters for all (including the non-skier)
The resort of Val Thorens has a lovely village feel, with enough to keep everybody, of all ages completely entertained. There’s a lively resort centre, with an excellent après ski scene to be enjoyed. There’s also plenty of brilliant restaurants and eateries to soak up any excess alcohol.
At one of the spectrum, the resort has also been awarded special family friendly status, and on the other end, the resort also boasts the highest nightclub in Europe.
Convenience
After booking your ski holiday, the next aim is to make the most of your time in the resort. This is where Val Thorens excels. It’s a purpose built resort, so has an excellent centre with plenty going on. Most of the accommodation is ski in/ski out and the lift systems are truly brilliant, cutting down on ques and getting you where you need to be. The lift system is the fastest in France.
